Community Guidelines
Last updated: September 4, 2026
Alt Chat is a community for people who live outside the mainstream — music, creativity, identity, scenes and subcultures. These guidelines apply everywhere on Alt Chat: profiles, the Realm, Groups, Chatrooms, Night Chats, Whispers and AltChat.com. They sit alongside our Terms of Service.
Who can be here
- You must be 18 or older. Accounts that belong to anyone under 18 are removed.
- One account per person. Be yourself — don’t impersonate other people, artists, brands or Alt Chat staff.
Not allowed
- Harassment, bullying or abuse — targeting, threatening, intimidating or humiliating anyone, including in Whispers and Night Chats.
- Hate — slurs and attacks on people for who they are (race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability and similar).
- Nudity and sexual content — no nude, sexually explicit or pornographic photos, videos or text anywhere on Alt Chat, including profile photos and galleries.
- Content that endangers others — threats, incitement, promotion of self-harm, or anything illegal.
- Spam and scams — unsolicited promotion, repetitive posting, fake profiles, phishing or asking members for money.
- Other people’s work — only post images, video, music or text you have the right to share. See Media & Copyright to report infringement.
- Private information— don’t share someone else’s personal details, private messages or photos without their consent.
How moderation works
- Reports go to people. Every report from the app or the website is reviewed by the Alt Chat team. Reporting never punishes anyone on its own — a person decides.
- Automatic filters block severe hate speech and targeted threats when you try to post or send them. Each block counts as a warning: after the third, your account is temporarily restricted from posting or messaging, and the app shows you when the restriction ends.
- Images you upload are screened for nudity and explicit content before they are shown to others.
- Serious or repeated violations — including underage accounts, nudity, harassment and abuse — can lead to a suspension or a permanent removal of the account. The reason is shown on the blocked-account screen in the app.
If you think we got it wrong
Suspensions can be appealed. Send an appealwith your username and what happened, and a person will review it. We can’t promise that every suspension will be reversed.
Your tools
- Report any profile, post, reply, group, chatroom or Night Chat from its menu in the app, or from the website.
- Blockanyone from their profile. You stop seeing each other’s content and notifications.
- Contact support at support@alt-chat.com or through the Support Center.
